'The town was founded by Doad king named Shankar Sahai in 1000 AD. Hence the name Garh+Shankar. Garhshankar was converted as a Tehsil in the year of 1844 by British Govt. 'Garhshankar is a city and a municipal council in Hoshiarpur district in the state of Punjab, India.

Festivals


In Garhshankar City, many festivals and fairs are organized throughout the year. Maha Shivratry, Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Hola Mohalla, Shri Viswkarma Day are among the most famous festivals. Raja Kans's mela, is a special mela that is organized every year near Janamashtmi. Raja Kans was uncle of Lord Shri Krishna. Another famous mela is the Roshni Mela Birampur
