'Very proud of her': Murder accused Hannah Quinn's mother speaks out in support
As Hannah Quinn sits behind bars charged with murder, her mother Megan Quinn says she is "very proud of her".
Ms Quinn, 23, and her boyfriend Blake Davis, 28, on Monday night handed themselves in at Newtown police station after they allegedly killed Jett McKee with a samurai sword and spent the weekend on the run.
Both Ms Quinn and Mr Davis have been charged with murder.
They each appeared separately before magistrate Margaret Quinn at Newtown Local Court on Tuesday, where Hannah Quinn will reappear on Thursday as her solicitor Lauren MacDougall applies for bail.
A keen Facebook poster on the subjects of animal rights, feminism and a vegan diet, Ms Quinn calls herself a murderer on social media - for picking a flower.
"I still struggle with possessing things I love! But I hardly EVER pick them any more and if I do, I get really upset with myself - murderer!" she wrote in 2016.
While Ms Quinn had never been imprisoned before, her Facebook suggests a clear opinion of policing.
"Every single cop is complicit in a system designed to uphold the capitalist oligarchy we live under," she wrote in a social media post.
Megan Quinn took to Facebook following her daughter's first court appearance on Tuesday to say: "Hannah is amazing and doing amazingly well tonight. I'm very proud of her."
She declined to comment to reporters after her daughter's first court appearance. Ms MacDougall said her client was faring poorly behind bars.
"She's very distressed, it's her first time in jail," Ms MacDougall said.
Her mother's social media also paints a picture of a woman passionate about similar issues.
As well as promoting her vegan market business, Megan Quinn's online profile touches on last year's marriage equality plebiscite and Adani.
"We're here, we're queer, get used to it," the Petersham resident wrote last year.
Ms Quinn's bail application is expected to allege that she played a minor role in the bloody and violent death of Mr McKee at Forest Lodge on Friday.
It is understood that Mr McKee, who lived on the same quiet Forest Lodge street as the couple, forced his way into their home at lunchtime on Friday, equipped with knuckledusters, a replica firearm and a balaclava.
Inside, an altercation allegedly broke out and Mr McKee fled to the street.
Ms Quinn allegedly chased after Mr McKee and crash-tackled him to the ground, while Mr Davis grabbed a samurai sword and struck the aspiring rapper with it.
Bloodied, Mr McKee stumbled along the street where he collapsed and died.
The couple then allegedly hid nearby, spending the weekend on the run before handing themselves in at Newtown police station in the company of a lawyer on Monday night.
Mr Davis' solicitor Sherleen Chand said Mr Davis would plead not guilty when he returns to court in October.
