Forest Lodge victim Jett McKee a 'true pioneer' of Sydney hip-hop
The man fatally stabbed with a samurai sword in Sydney's inner west on Friday has been remembered as a luminary of the Sydney hip-hop scene.
Jett McKee, who performed under the name Scepaz, was heard arguing with a man and a woman inside a home in Hereford Street in Forest Lodge at lunchtime on Friday, then staggered onto the street with what has been described as a "massive" head wound.
Emergency services were called, but by the time they arrived Mr McKee was lying dead in the middle of the street.
The Herald understands that the 30-year-old was fatally stabbed with a samurai sword - allegedly one of many inside the house where the altercation took place.
While initial reports suggested a handgun was found at the scene, the weapon turned out to be a fake.
Police on Monday continued to hunt for the man and woman with whom Mr McKee was allegedly arguing before the fatal blow and, on Saturday, released a description of the pair.
The man is described as being of the same height and also of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 20s with a medium build and short brown hair.
In her early 20s and roughly 178 centimetres tall, the female police would like to speak to is described as being of Caucasian appearance with bleached blonde hair and dark roots.
Mr McKee's LinkedIn profile said he worked as a software order processor, but his true love seemed to be music.
He spent 11 years working at underground label Sub Conscious records that he and another rapper formed in 2007 and, in December, released what would be his final recording.
The video clip for Forgotten It All shows him and co-producer Benji drinking long necks, rapping with a teddy bear and throwing a chair from a second-floor balcony.
Tributes to the "legend" of Australian hip-hop have flowed, with one fan and friend describing him as a "calm, collected and humble" soul.
"This is the last person I would have ever thought this would happen to," Liot Jekkez wrote.
"Another legend of the Sydney rap scene lost. Big luv and rest in peace my dude!" hip hop artist Mr. Ruckman said.
One hip-hop enthusiast posted images of a mural he had created in the rapper's honour.
"Love you so much brother ... rest in paradise Jett Scepaz," Dave Garrey said.
