Man charged with murder over woman's death in Penshurst
A man has been charged with murder after he was found injured alongside the body of his female partner in Sydney's south on Monday.
Emergency services were called to the apartment on Victoria Avenue about 11am on Monday after concerns for the pair's welfare were raised.
When police arrived, they found the body of 67-year-old Dawn Butterworth alongside her injured partner, 62-year-old Allan Greentree.
Investigators were alerted by a "regular visitor" to the home, said St George Police Area Command Superintendent Julian Griffiths, confirming that the dead woman and injured man were known to each other.
"We believe that it may domestic related... we believe that they do know each other," he said, adding that police had not been called to the unit before.
According to Seven News, neighbours heard screams but did not call police. The man was reportedly suffering from self-inflicted wounds to his wrists.
Officers from St George Police Area Command established a crime scene at the unit and were investigating the incident.
Mr Greentree was taken to St George Hospital for treatment under police guard.
He was released from hospital about 4pm and taken to Kogarah Police Station, where he was charged with murder.
Refused bail, he will appear in Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday.
